‘AOC Effect’ helps business boom for district eateries

Earlier this month, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez tweeted out some dining reccomendations in the Bronx. On her list, was our very own Mangi Pasta. AOC described the location as super fresh, handmade Italian and family owned. Since the tweet, Mangi Pasta owners Aurora and Estevan Cerrato, stated there has been an increase in business. Eating Along Arthur Avenue: A Walking Tour of the Bronx’s Little Italy

Before the arrival of Italian immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Belmont was part of a tobacco farm. Today the neighborhood is rife with dining options. On his tour, critic Robert Sietsema, enjoyed burek from Tony & Tina’s Pizzeria, sfogliatelle from Egidio Pastry Shop, and ravioli to go from Borgatti’s. The tour continued with a hero from Joe’s Deli, ricotta from Calandra Cheese, meals at Mario’s and Dominick’s and cannoli from Madonia Bakery. Local business owners bring Little Italy pasta sauce to the shelves

The Belmont BID teamed up with Summer Garden last year to create a line of pasta sauces labeled Little Italy in the Bronx. The label on each bottle of sauce shares the neighborhood’s rich history. Summer Garden Launches Little Italy in the Bronx Sauce

Little Italy in the Bronx sauces are the culmination of a partnership between Summer Garden and the Belmont BID. Summer Garden fell in love with the neighborhood and its history which is shared on each bottle. Proceeds from each jar go back to the community.
